Investing Approach

I believe that every responsible investor should amend to their rules for investing. With that said below are my rules for how I will be constructing my portfolio.

Non-registered dividend portfolio:

  • Invest in companies who has a dividend yield of 3.5% or higher. So I'll be a more aggressive investor who is willing to take on a bit more risk.
  • Invest in numerous assets class but no more than 3 of each. For example, telecommunications - only 3 companies or banks - only 3 companies.
  • Diversified (as mention in my last point).
TFSA:
  • With my TFSA I prescribed to an index portfolio using Dan Bortolotti Canadian Couch Potato strategy as found on his site (http://www.canadiancouchpotato.com). I will be using the TD e-series funds as my funds.
  • I plan to rebalance twice a year to a 70/30 split of stocks and bonds ( I decided on this split because I'm still relatively young at only age 24 so I believe I can take on more risk).
RRSP:
  • Invest in American stocks so I won't be dinged with fees.
  • Invest in companies who has a dividend yield of 2.5% or higher.
  • Invest in numerous assets class but no more than 3 of each (Diversified!).
  • Mutual fund: TD Dividend Growth Fund (Will no longer be contributing).
HISA:
  • High interest savings account.
